What concrete costs on the Gold Coast

Published guides quote anything from $50 to $250 a square metre, which tells you nothing without a spec. Here is what actually drives the price, a market ballpark for the common jobs, and what is inside an OnlyCrete fixed quote.

Ballpark it

A market range for the Gold Coast, from published 2026 price guides, not an OnlyCrete quote. Use it to sanity-check your budget, then get a fixed price.

House slabs are deliberately left out: they are priced off the engineering, and a per-metre number would mislead you.

Source for the ranges: What's the Damage, Gold Coast concreting cost guide, accessed October 2026. Ranges are for supply and lay at typical access; your site can sit outside them.

What moves the price

Seven things decide most of the number. Know them and you will read any quote, ours included, with your eyes open.

  • Area and thickness

Concrete is bought by the cubic metre. A 100 mm driveway uses 25% less than a 125 mm shed slab of the same footprint, and heavy vehicle areas need the thicker one.

  • Ground and site class

Reactive clay (M, H1, H2, E) needs deeper beams, heavier steel and sometimes piers. Fill needs compaction or piers through it. The soil report sets this, not the concreter.

  • Access and pumping

If the truck can back up to the formwork, concrete is discharged straight in. If not, a pump is hired by the hour with a minimum charge.

  • Fall, steps and formwork

Steep frontages, step-downs, drop edge beams and curved edges all add formwork hours. Flat and square is cheapest.

  • Finish

Broom or trowel finish is base price. Coloured, exposed aggregate, stamped and honed finishes add material and finishing time, and sealing is extra.

  • Demolition and disposal

Breaking out and tipping an old driveway is real money. It is always a separate line on our quotes.

  • Council and drainage

A new crossover may need a council permit and inspection; a driveway that collects water needs a grate or drain. Both are quoted when needed, not sprung on you.

Questions about price

If yours is not here, ask when you request a quote.

Why don't you publish a per-square-metre price?

Because it would be wrong for most jobs. Two 40 m² driveways can differ by thousands depending on access, fall, demolition, pump, subgrade and finish. We quote fixed off your actual site or plans, with everything listed, so the number you get is the number you pay.

What is included in an OnlyCrete quote?

Everything needed to finish the job: excavation and base preparation, formwork, steel, vapour barrier where required, concrete, pump if needed, finishing, control joints, and clean-up. For house slabs it also includes piers, termite system and the inspections. Demolition of old concrete is a separate line so you can see it.

How is a house slab priced?

Off the engineer's slab plan and the soil report. Slab class, footprint, number and depth of piers, beams and step-downs, mesh grade and pump requirements set the price. Builders get a fixed per-lot figure; owner-builders get the same.

Does a steep block cost more?

Usually yes: more formwork, more labour and a pump instead of direct discharge from the truck. The quote shows these as lines so you can see what the slope is costing.

Do you charge for quotes?

No. Send photos and measurements, or plans, and the quote is free. Site visits are free for jobs in our area.
